With the PS4 Pro, Sony have introduced a whole new option to the console market. If you’re in the market for a new console, it’s difficult not to recommend the PS4 Pro, unless the additional £90 is a genuine barrier. However, if you already own a PS4, the question becomes a lot trickier. If you care about your games, how they perform and still want to stick with a console, then the PS4 Pro is a viable upgrade. If you have a 4k TV and want to squeeze the best out of a console, then it’s a viable upgrade. If you have a PSVR, then the PS4 Pro provides a noticeable improvement to the quality of experience you get. However, if you just want to play games and aren’t fussed about the difference between 30/60fps or 900p/1080p, then it’s difficult to recommend. It’s no secret that here at NGB most of us consider the PS4 our console of choice, and with the PS4 Pro, the best just got better.

Sony's played it smart here: the PS4 Pro does not fundamentally change the existing PS4 experience – it merely adds a layer of icing and places a cherry on top. Enthusiasts looking for the best PlayStation visuals will want this box – but no one is being left behind.

Should you buy a PS4 Pro?
From what we can tell at this stage in the PS4 Pro's life cycle, only a very limited number of consumers should even consider buying one. If you already own a PS4, a recommendation is even harder to make.
If you own or plan to own a 4K HDR TV and don't yet own a PS4, the $100 on top of the standard PS4's US price is an easier pill to swallow.
You can obsess over resolution specs all you want, but the fact remains that we did not see a real world difference that blew us away. Of course, our sampling was only a slice of the games that will offer Pro enhancements out of the gate, so it's entirely possible that more noticeable improvements will come out down the road, especially with games that have been developed with the PS4 Pro in mind from the start.
