Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition)
I build up mi je bija nekako jednostavno zanimljiviji.
This is an older, darker Batman. He's already been through Robin's death, possibly Barbara's as well. Then Superman comes along, bringing Zod and his crew with him. Let's remember, Superman didn't really try that hard to avoid casualties in the MoS battle, resulting in thousands of deaths, including Wayne's employees. After all the losses and the appearance of Superman, Bruce becomes this extremely angry and violent, cruel man who feels powerless against these new threats.
And his "how many good guys are left" line hints at either Red Hood or Two-Face. Or both. He has no more faith in people, he's grown distrustful and paranoid. Then Lex starts framing Superman for Africa and The Capitol, once again making Superman look like he doesn't really care about human lives. And he adds "you let your family die" letter to push Batman's rage over the edge, as he puts it himself. That's when Batman finally reaches the breaking point.
The "Martha" scene was executed poorly, mainly because Superman waited too long to explain the situation, and using his mother's name like that instead of calling her "mom" or "mother felt a little unnatural. But the idea behind it wasn't a bad one. At that moment, Bruce has something of a flashback and sees his younger self in Superman. He realizes he became the bad guy himself, a bully like the man who killed his parents was. And he isn't about to let another mother, another Martha die. This time he's gonna do what he couldn't as a child - save her. The name was merely an emotional, symbolic catalyst he needed to see through the rage and fear that consumed him.
And at the end of the movie, when Superman sacrificies himself to save everybody else and proves beyond doubt that he indeed is a good man who cares about people, that's when Bruce's return from the darkness that consumed him is complete. He regains his faith in humanity. "I failed him in life, I won't fail him in death." And that's why at the end of the movie he doesn't brand Lex. He wants to be a better man again.
Lex obviously suffered some form of molestation by his father. From what I've gathered, he's angry at God for not helping him, that's why he says "if God is all-powerful, he cannot be all-good." And the other way around. And here is this godlike alien who claims to be good, and Lex can't accept that. He believs Superman to be a fraud and he wants to expose him. By forcing him to choose between letting Martha die or killing Batman, he aims to prove that he's just a man too. Either not all-powerful or not all-good.
But I don't think that's the only reason he hates Superman, I believe he's also jealous of the power Superman so undeservingly wields, while he's a mere mortal, despite all his money, knowledge and intelligence. As he said, he believes knowledge to be power, therefore having knowledge is paradoxical to him and he can't stand Superman having that power instead of him.
And what makes this movie darker and more mature than a lot of other comic book movies isn't the amount of violence or bad
language. It shows how quickly people can turn against something or someone, in this case Superman. How quick we can be to pass judgment. It also shows how low even a good person can go when life hits them hard enough (Bruce). It explores the meaning and morality behind unlimited power and how people respond to it.
It's a movie with several layers and massages, and some of them might be a little too subtle for everyone to pick up. It was largley like that for me too the first time I watched the movie, because the theatrical cut is so incomplete and poorly edited that just trying to catch up with everything leaves you confused and a lot of stuff ends up going over your head. Fortunately, the ultimate edition and the fact it was my second viewing enabled me to understand the movie a lot better.
The movie definitely isn't without flaws, but it's not nearly as bad as some people claim either. At least not in my opinion.
